Education Providers Frequently Asked Questions



Continuing Education Providers

Additional information can be found under Rule 120-2-3-.12.
  • To become approved as a continuing education provider, the sponsor is required to submit form GID-110 “REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF PRE-LICENSING OR CONTINUING EDUCATION SPONSOR, INSTRUCTOR AND COURSE FOR GEORGIA RESIDENT INSURANCE AGENTS”, in duplicate. The application must be filled out giving the required information.
  • A complete outline of the course showing the amount of time to be spent on each topic including lunch and breaks must be provided. For self study and correspondence courses, the actual study material must be submitted.
  • For the purposes of continuing education, each contact hour is 50 minutes and only full hours will be counted. For example, 100 minutes of continuous instruction will be counted as only one credit hour. Lunch and breaks will not be counted as class time for credit.
  • Self study or correspondence course providers must certify the hours of study, on the average, required to complete the course successfully. Credit will be given for 50% of the hours so certified.
  • A current resume for each instructor must be provided, with particular detail to insurance and/or teaching experience. Instructors are required to have no less than three full years of said experience.
  • All requests for approval are required to be filed forty-five (45) days prior to the first scheduled meeting of the course. The fees are as follows:
    1. Initial provider entity application $100.00
    2. Each instructor – include resume $ 10.00
    3. Course – include timed outline $ 10.00
  • When an entity, instructor or course has been approved, one copy of the relevant GID-110 will be returned with the approval and entity or course number as applicable.
  • To add instructors for an already approved entity, submit GID-110 in duplicate with a current resume of the proposed instructor and $10.00 per new instructor.
  • To change, revise or add a new course for an already approved entity, submit GID-110 in duplicate with a timed course outline and $10.00.
  • All approved entities (sponsors) must refile by October 1 each year to be eligible to conduct courses in the following year. (File by October 1, 2002 to be qualified for 2003). The refiling consists of GID-110 in duplicate, current resumes of all renewing instructors and the appropriate fees.
    1. Entity renewal fee $50.00
    2. Each instructor renewal fee $10.00
  • Each time an already approved course is given, the entity must notify this office at least 2 weeks before the course date. Notification must be on company letterhead and include date, time, address and location description including handicap accessibility and adequacy of parking. This notification can be sent to the department via fax at (404) 656-0874.
  • Upon successful completion of the course, the provider will complete and issue an original GID-111 to each student and keep records for each student on file for at least 3 years. Record keeping is the responsibility of the entity. Do not send the GID-111 to the Georgia Insurance Department. The certificate generated by the Easy Bank software is acceptable in lieu of the GID-111.
  • Successful completion for all self study and correspondence courses must include a final exam which is proctored by a disinterested third party. The school is responsible for obtaining affidavits for each exam from the proctors. Do not send the affidavits or exam answer sheets to the Georgia Insurance Department.

Prelicensing Education Providers

Additional information can be found under Rule 120-2-3-.08.
  • To become approved as a pre-licensing provider, the sponsor is required to submit form GID-110 “REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF PRE-LICENSING OR CONTINUING EDUCATION SPONSOR, INSTRUCTOR AND COURSE FOR GEORGIA RESIDENT INSURANCE AGENTS”, in duplicate. The application must be filled out giving the required information.
  • The only acceptable course titles for pre-licensing are:
    • 40 Hour Pre-Licensing for Life & Health;
    • 40 Hour Pre-Licensing for Property & Casualty;
    • 30 Hour Pre-Licensing for Personal Lines ;
    • 20 Hour Pre-Licensing for Life & Health Limited Subagent;
    • 20 Hour Pre-Licensing for Property & Casualty Limited Subagent.
  • A complete outline of the course showing the amount of time to be spent on each topic including lunch and breaks must be provided. For the purposes of pre-licensing, each contact hour is 60 minutes and the full 20, 30 or 40 hours must be class time. Lunch and breaks will not be counted as class time.
  • A current resume for each instructor must be provided, with particular detail on insurance and/or teaching experience.
  • All requests for approval are required to be filed forty-five (45) days prior to the first scheduled meeting of the course. The fees are as follows:
    • Initial provider entity application $100.00
    • Each instructor – include resume $ 10.00
    • Course – include timed outline $ 10.00

    • Entity renewal fee $50.00
    • Each instructor renewal fee $10.00

* To change the course location, the entity must notify this office at least 2 weeks before the course date. Notification must be on company letterhead and include date, time, address and location description including handicap accessibility and adequacy of parking. This notification can be sent to the department via fax at (404) 656-0874.
